Why doesn't my phone see the router's Wi-Fi network? Why doesn't my phone see the wifi access point? Why doesn't Android see WiFi? Why doesn't WiFi show up on my phone?

Good afternoon everyone!

In many cases, it is much more convenient to connect a smartphone to a Wi-Fi network (than to use 3G/4G Internet). Firstly, it is often unlimited, and secondly, the speed and stability are an order of magnitude higher.

But..., in some cases, the phone stubbornly does not see Wi-Fi, creating discomfort (and in some cases, for example, on the road, at the airport, on vacation, it is completely impossible to access the Internet).

Actually, in this article I wanted to give the most common reasons why a smartphone (on Android) may not find a Wi-Fi network. I think the note will be useful for many users.

Note: I emphasize that this article deals with the issue of Wi-Fi “invisibility”. If you are connected to Wi-Fi, but do not have Internet, then this is a slightly different problem (to solve it, use this note:)

What can you do if Android does not see the Wi-Fi network?

Sometimes, due to various errors, it may happen that the router (for example) stops distributing the Internet. Therefore, one of the very first tips in this case is to reboot the router (to do this, simply disconnect its power supply from the network for 20-30 seconds).

2) What channel (region, if any) is selected in the Wi-Fi settings

Each radio device operates at a certain frequency (and the router is no exception). So, the frequency in the router settings is affected by the channel (region) *, and I’ll immediately note that different countries use a different number of channels: in Russia from 1 to 13, in the USA up to 11, in Japan up to 14.

The point here is that if your device is localized to work in another country, then it may not see some channels. Let's say, if your phone sees only from 1 to 11 channels, and auto mode is selected in the router settings (and it selected channel 13), then your phone simply will not be able to work with such a Wi-Fi network.

The channel and region are set in the wireless network settings in the router’s web interface (see a couple of screenshots below).

To help! How to enter the router settings -

How to choose the “best” channel for work (instructions), how to change it in the router settings -

Important!

Nowadays, most classic routers operate at a frequency of 2.4 GHz, but recently new routers with 2 frequencies have appeared on sale: 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz (5 GHz allows you to unload the 2.4 GHz frequency and improve the quality of the Wi-Fi network in homes where too many routers operate at the 2.4 GHz frequency). But the whole point is that not all laptops, tablets, phones support the 5 GHz frequency. Pay attention to this too!

3) Does the phone even see Wi-Fi networks (at least any?)

If the above does not help, pay attention to your phone: does it see any other Wi-Fi networks?

If the phone does not see any Wi-Fi networks at all(although other devices find them) - perhaps it has a hardware problem (the Wi-Fi module could become unusable). I recommend rebooting your phone, removing the case and trying to find Wi-Fi again. If this does not work, contact the service center.

If the phone generally sees Wi-Fi networks, but doesn’t find just one specifically for yours - then pay attention to the channel and region (I already indicated this a little higher), the coverage area (perhaps you are too far from the router and the signal in this place is weak), to some parameters of the router (a little about them below ⇓).

4) Does the router distribute a Wi-Fi network (can other devices see it?)

Next, I recommend checking whether the Wi-Fi network (which you want to find on your phone) is visible to other devices, for example, a laptop or tablet. It is possible that the problem is still in the router settings. For example, the router settings could have been reset (this sometimes happens during power surges).

Another important point: the router may have a “white” list (blocking unknown devices is usually done by ). This is done for security purposes so that “unknown” devices cannot connect to the Wi-Fi network. Therefore, pay attention to the “Security”, “Parental Control”, “Bandwidth Control”, “Wireless Network Settings” tabs in the web interface of your router.

In some cases, it is much easier and faster to restore factory presets (they usually do not have any locks or restrictions).

5) About Wi-Fi coverage radius

Pay attention to the location of the router. The fact is that the quality of the signal and the range of Wi-Fi coverage very much depends on where the router is located and where the receiving device is (every “extra” concrete wall or other obstacle greatly reduces the signal). And if the phone is located behind two concrete walls from the router, it is quite possible that it will not find this network.

6) If you distribute the Wi-Fi network from a laptop

If, then in some cases it is necessary to make some settings in the Windows Network Control Center (the fact is that security settings in Windows 7+ by default can block the Internet for other devices) .

First you need a tab: Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center.

Then open several profiles one by one that will be in this tab (private, guest, all networks) and disable password protection, enable network discovery, and allow file and folder sharing.

Then recheck the Wi-Fi operation (it is advisable to restart Windows and the phone before doing this).

7) The last resort is resetting the settings (the so-called Hard Reset)

The last thing I can recommend is to reset your phone, try to return it to factory presets (the so-called Hard Reset). Please note that during this operation: the entire phone book, phone parameters and settings will be reset and will need to be set again!

To reset your Android device, just go to the “Recovery and reset” section and open the “Reset settings” item (see screenshot below).

That's all for now, additions on the topic are welcome...

The operation of phones does not always satisfy users. Failures often occur that prevent you from fully using the gadget for its intended purpose. One of these problems is that the phone does not see Wi-Fi. The solution to the problem depends on the cause. In some cases, the situation can be corrected on your own, and sometimes it is best to contact a specialist. Below we will discuss why the gadget does not see the network and how to solve this problem.

Possible reasons

  • check network functionality;
  • turn off and on WI-FI;

  • reboot the gadget;
  • reboot the router;
  • bring the gadget to the receiver and look at the network operation - if, as you get closer, WI-FI reception becomes better, perhaps the cause of the failure is the low power of the router or obstacles in the network path;
  • check the password - if the data is forgotten, change the router password and reconnect.

If after all the steps the problem is not solved, we can talk about why the phone does not see WI-FI. There may be two reasons for this:

  • problems with the mobile device itself;
  • router malfunction.

To solve a problem, it is necessary to establish the exact cause of its occurrence. To do this, it is recommended to connect another phone to the router. If it receives a signal, then the problem is with the gadget.

If the phone and other connected devices do not see the router, we can say with confidence that there is a problem with the router. To solve the problem, it is recommended to contact a service center or purchase a new receiver.

Why your smartphone does not see the network and how to solve the problem, you will learn from the following video:

Solutions

Below we will describe the most common causes of malfunction and ways to deal with them.

Router frozen

If there were no problems detecting a signal for a long time, but suddenly the network disappeared, the reason for this may be a malfunction of the router. No specialist can say for sure why the router freezes. It's just that such a problem suddenly arises from time to time.

To fix the problem, you should reboot the router. To do this, press the power off button on the device, wait 30 seconds and turn on the device. You can also simply remove the plug from the socket for the same period of time and put it back.

WI-FI phone module

If the network is turned on but not detected. This situation occurs due to a malfunction of the gadget’s internal module. This usually happens in custom firmware where the network is not configured. This problem can be resolved as follows:

  • reboot the phone;
  • return to factory settings if a problem occurs after flashing the device.

If this does not help, you should contact a service center.

Incorrect router settings

In the event that the phone does not see WI-FI only at home, you can safely begin to suspect your router. Most often, problems with Internet access on your phone arise due to incorrect device settings.

The picture shows the correct router settings:

To troubleshoot the problem, perform the following manipulations:

  • Check the activity of the network distribution option. To do this, go to the sub-item “Wireless network settings”. After this, check the boxes next to the inscriptions: “Enable wireless broadcasting of the router” and “Enable Broadcasting”.
  • Change the operating mode. Some phone models with old firmware do not see the network with the new parameters. For this reason, it is recommended to return to the old standards.
  • Change the channel width or the channel itself, as well as the broadcasting region. Such actions will be performed if previous manipulations did not bring the desired result.
  • Change the signal frequency. In order for the device to catch WI-FI, you need to configure the receiver and the gadget to the same broadcast frequency.

Frequency range

Many phone models are equipped with a dual-frequency WI-FI module. To receive a signal, the auto mode is initially set. This means that the device catches a network signal operating at a frequency of 2.4 and 5 GHz. If the auto mode is not set, but one frequency is set, then the signal from another range will not be received.

The following manipulations help solve problems:

  • enter the phone settings;
  • select the “WI-FI” tab;
  • select “Advanced settings” and “Frequency range”;
  • select “auto” mode.

Interference and weak signal

A bad signal is indicated by one or two bars of the icon on the device. Typically, this situation occurs when the router power is set to low.

The following steps will help solve the problem:

  • enter the transmitter settings;
  • go to the sub-item “Advanced wireless network settings”;
  • opposite the inscription “Transmitter power” set the value: “High”;
  • save changes.

The signal appears and disappears also if household appliances - microwave ovens and other appliances - are located near the router. This problem can be easily solved - the receiver is moved to another location.

There may be no connection to the mobile network to WI-FI if the option to hide Internet access points with a weak signal is selected in the settings. To fix the situation, you just need to disable this feature. They do this as follows:

  • enter the gadget settings;
  • go to the “WI-FI” sub-item;
  • in advanced settings, remove the icon opposite the inscription “Do not use a weak connection.”

Checking Android gadgets

To check if WI-FI is working on Android phones, you must first try to connect to the network. To do this, select an access point and enter the appropriate key. If after this the connection is not established, enter the “Network information” column and click on the “Delete” button. This is how the network parameters are reset. Then they try to connect to WI-FI again.

If there is no connection, you can try rebooting the gadget. This can be done using the on/off button.

What to do if these manipulations do not give the desired result? You can reconfigure the device. To do this, reset user data and reset operating system settings. To save the necessary data, they are transferred to a flash drive and the memory card is removed from the device. After this, perform the following manipulations:

  • enter the settings;
  • go to the “Restore and reset” tab, and from there to “Reset settings”;
  • Click on the inscription “Reset settings”.

After that, connect to WI-FI and install all the applications that were removed. They do this using the appropriate services.

Solving the problem with WI-FI on iPhone

Why the iPhone does not connect to WI-FI and how to fix it, you will find out in the following video:

The operating system of the iPhone, iPad and other similar gadgets is almost identical. For this reason, solving the problem with WI-FI on Apple will be relevant for all devices of the brand.

Restarting the WI-FI adapter

Typically, there are no problems connecting to the network on these gadgets. If the connection cannot be established, perform the following manipulations:

  • enter the WI-FI settings;
  • choose a network that you cannot connect to;
  • set the command “Forget this network”;

  • enter the WI-FI settings and try to connect to this network again or select a different access point.

Reset

What to do if the previous procedure did not give the desired effect? In this case, you can perform a factory reset. The procedure is performed as follows:

  • enter the settings menu;
  • go to the “Basic” tab;
  • click on the “Reset” column;
  • select “Reset network settings”;
  • confirm their actions by clicking on the appropriate inscription.

Clearing RAM and restarting the device

To clear the device’s RAM, proceed as follows:

  • press the power button and hold it in this position until the power off icon appears on the screen;
  • the button is released while simultaneously pressing the “Home” button, which is also held for several seconds.

After this, the shutdown screen will disappear and normal mode will appear, and the buffer will be cleared. Applications that were running will restart.

If these manipulations do not help resolve the problem, most likely the gadget has broken down. In this case, it is recommended to take the device to a service center.

If your phone does not see WI-FI, you do not need to immediately contact the service center. Even malfunctions of devices such as iPhone, iPad, Samsung and other gadgets in some cases can be fixed independently. The main thing is to identify the cause of the problem and know how to fix it.

Friends, have you encountered such a problem? What method helped you restore your WI-FI connection? Share your experiences and ways that we forgot to write about.

If you have a tablet running Android OS, then most likely it will have a built-in Wi-Fi module. I have never seen a tablet without Wi-Fi; even the cheapest Chinese models are equipped with this type of wireless connection.

The instructions will be presented in two parts, first setting up the modem/router, then connecting the tablet to a Wi-Fi access point. If you have been using this technology for a long time, but just don’t know how to set up Wi-Fi on your tablet, you can skip the first part and proceed straight to the second.

Part 1. Enable Wi-Fi on your modem or router

I assume that you have no idea what this “Wi-Fi” is, how to turn it on and how to use it. If I’m right, then you did the right thing by starting to read the article from here, from the first part. I repeat, if you have everything set up for a long time, you use Wi-Fi on your laptop, then read part 2.

Before you can use Wi-Fi at home on your tablet, you need to enable it on your modem. I hope your modem can create Wi-Fi networks. To make sure of this, read the instructions for the modem or look at its characteristics on the website. Look there for words like “802.11” or “Wi-Fi”. The easiest way to find out is to look for a light bulb on the modem that says “WLAN”. If it is there, then there is Wi-Fi.

If you don’t know what to write here, try to find out this information from the person who set up the Internet for you or from the person who sold you the modem. Alternatively, you can contact your Internet provider.

Further actions depend on your modem model. You need to find a menu item with a name like “WLAN” or “Wireless Lan”. Look on the left in the menu. Check the box next to “Active Wireless LAN” or “Enable”. Set the network security type to “WPA2-PSK”. Enter the name of your Wi-Fi network in the “SSID” field and enter the password of your network in the “Pre-Shared Key” field. Click the "Apply" or "Submit" button to save the settings.

But that is not all. We go to the DHCP settings (this thing somehow distributes IP addresses to everyone who connects to the network). Depending on the modem model, these settings may be in a variety of places. The screenshot shows the possible location of such settings. Although in my Zyxel modem they are hidden along the path Network -> LAN -> DHCP Setup. Enable DHCP if it is disabled by switching the checkbox to Enable. If DHCP is enabled, read the next paragraph. If there are no checkboxes, but there is a list, select the Server item opposite the DHCP item. After turning on, reboot the modem (this can be done either in the modem settings interface, which is where you are now, or simply with a button on the modem.

Part 2. Connecting the tablet via Wi-Fi

All that remains is to connect the tablet to the newly created network. The actions will depend on the version of Android on your tablet. If you have version 4 and higher, the first Wi-Fi item is right in the settings. Turn it on. If you have Android version 3, you also need to go to the wireless connections settings item. And there already turn on Wi-Fi.

After the device thinks, it will show you a list of found networks. Select the network that you created in part 1 (this network will be called the same as you named it in the “SSID” field), or which you already have and to which you have been connecting your laptop for a long time. Next, you will be asked to enter a password for it. Again, enter the password that you specified in the “Pre-Shared Key” field. After all the steps, the tablet should connect to the network, which you will know by the antenna icon that appears next to the clock.

Part 3. Endlessly obtaining an IP address...

The most common problem that users have when connecting a tablet via Wi-Fi is the constant message “Obtaining an IP address.” It doesn't connect any further. There are several solutions to this problem:

— Rename the Wi-Fi network to English. As suggested in the comments, sometimes tablets do not connect to networks whose names contain Russian letters.

— Enabling the DHCP server. How to enable it, read above, in the 1st part of this article at the very end.

— Changing the Wi-Fi network encryption type. You can change the type of protection in the Wi-Fi security settings (this is the same place where you set the password and network name). Try setting some other value in the highlighted items. Don't be afraid, you won't damage the modem with your experiments. For the changes to take effect, reboot the modem.

— Manually enter IP addresses and DNS servers in the connection settings on the tablet. When connecting to a Wi-Fi network, in the window where you are asked to enter a password, open the additional settings menu. And there select IP Settings -> Custom. In the IP address field, enter your address, it looks like 192.168.1.*** (for example, 192.168.1.128). In the Gateway field, enter 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 (check with your legal provider). All that remains is to enter DNS, which is different for everyone, but which you can also find out from your Internet provider.

Why can't my Android phone see the WiFi network from my laptop? This question often worries users. It is worth noting that when distributing WiFi from a laptop, you get the same network as using a regular router. Therefore, the principle of its operation and configuration is practically the same.

The only difference is that the router has more extensive and flexible parameters. In addition, you should know that you can organize an access point on a laptop in different ways. One of them is organizing a “Computer-to-Computer” connection. In this case, your phone or tablet simply will not detect the network, since it is designed exclusively for computers.

Why doesn't Android see the WiFi network?

There can be many reasons for this. If you organized a network using a router, then first of all you will need to enter the settings, since all settings are made exclusively in the router. If the network was created on a laptop, then you should go to the operating system settings. As you can see, you don’t need to configure anything on the tablet or smartphone itself.

The fact is that the Android operating system is made in such a way that all the settings have already been entered and users simply have nothing to configure. Everything is extremely simple. Therefore, we will look for the cause of the error directly at the access point itself (in the router or laptop). So, let's look at both options in more detail.

Why Android may not see the WiFi network (video)

Setting up the router

Very often, Android does not see the WiFi network due to incorrect router settings. So let's go into the router menu and make all the necessary adjustments. To do this, connect to an access point on your laptop or desktop PC. Open your favorite browser and enter the router's IP in the address bar. How to recognize him. As a rule, there is a sticker on the device itself with all the data. But if it is not there, the necessary information can be found in the user manual. If there are no instructions, then we do the following.

Press two Windows keys + R at the same time. In the window that appears, write CMD and click “OK”. Thus, we launched the command line. Here you can view detailed information about the network to which your computer is connected. To do this, write ipconfig and press Enter. After this you will see the connection information. Here you need to find the line “Default Gateway”. This is the address we need to enter in the browser. As a rule, most routers have the following IP - 192.168.0.1 (but there are also 192.168.1.1) It all depends on the model.

How to easily find out the IP address of a WiFi router (video)

So, after we have entered the desired address, press “Enter”. After this, we need to enter a username and password. Here we write admin, admin respectively. If you changed these values, then enter your data.

That's it, we got into the router parameters. The interface may vary depending on the model and brand of device. We will analyze further steps using the D-LinkDir-615 router as an example. But it is worth noting that all access points operate on the same principle, so their configuration is practically the same. The only difference is in the design of the menu and the names of some sections.

First of all, click on the “Advanced settings” button at the bottom of the screen. After this, additional sections will appear. We are interested in the item called “WiFi”. Here we enter the main settings.

First, check if the wireless connection is turned on. There should be a checkmark in the “Enable wireless connection” line. If it’s not there, then install it, save the settings and check if Android finds our network.

If the problem is not solved, then we move on. Now you should check the channel. Try changing it. It is recommended to set the value to "Auto" (automatic detection). A little lower you need to select the network mode. It is recommended to select 802.11 B\G\Nmixed from the list. This is a mixed mode in which devices that support different WiFi communication standards can connect to the network.

Now find the line “Hide access point”. This feature hides your network. Because of this, devices simply cannot detect it. In this case, the connection to the router must be created manually. If there is a checkmark here, uncheck it, save the settings, reboot the router and try connecting your smartphone or tablet to the network again. This completes the router setup.

Why Android won't connect to Wi-Fi: Video

Setting up a virtual access point on a laptop for network discovery

A very common question is why Android does not see the WiFi network created on a laptop.

The fact is that simply creating a virtual access point is not enough. After this, you should open access to it and enable detection.

This is done simply. First, we need to log into the network control center. To open the tool we need, find the network icon in the tray (in the lower right corner of the desktop). Right-click on it and select the required item from the menu that appears.

A menu will open in which you should enter the “Change advanced sharing settings” item. Here you just need to enable network discovery and allow file and printer sharing. In addition, at the very bottom of the menu you need to disable network access with password protection.

That's it, the setup is complete. Try connecting your Android to the network again. You must also remember that if you use a laptop as an access point, then the range of such a network is lower than that of a router. This is because laptops use less powerful antennas.

It is worth noting that the WiFi adapter antenna in smartphones and tablets is even weaker than in a laptop. This means that in some cases Android may not see the network as a result of being too far away from the signal source.

For example, on a laptop the signal level is about 20% (2 sticks), and a smartphone in the same place does not see available connections at all. The solution to this problem is simply move closer to the router. Or try moving the router closer to the center of the room and position it higher so that the signal can cover a larger area.

What to do if Wi-Fi is connected, but the Internet does not work on Android: Video

13.06.2017

Without a connection to the World Wide Web, a smartphone remains just a tool for calls and SMS. But to download applications and work with them, you need a stable Internet connection. In a modern city, the most convenient way to access the Internet remains a Wi-Fi connection, given that a free access point can be found not only in cafes, but also in parks and even in transport.

But what to do if the phone does not see the WiFi router, how to deal with it? We will discuss possible solutions to this problem in this article, also answering the common question of why the phone does not connect to the laptop’s WiFi.

Why doesn't my Android smartphone connect to Wi-Fi?

Although connecting a smartphone to Wi-Fi is quite simple, not everyone knows how to do it. And owners of Android-based mobile devices constantly have questions about why the phone does not connect to wifi or how to set up a wi-fi access point from the phone.

There may be several reasons why your phone does not connect to Wi-Fi outdoors or at home:

  • The router is frozen.
  • The user entered an incorrect Internet password.
  • The network is not working or is not functioning properly.
  • The router's security type is set incorrectly.
  • The smartphone does not support home router Wi-Fi standards.
  • The number of connected devices on your home network has been exceeded.

The phone does not see the router and Wi-Fi

The latest versions of Android are good because most of the special functions in the smartphone are configured automatically. The user just has to press a button in the menu. If the phone is not too far from the router (and in this case the gadget simply will not be able to catch the router’s signal), the reason why the mobile device does not pick up Wi-Fi should be looked for in the settings of the router itself.

We will show you how to check your router settings using the Asus RT-N11P router as an example. In general, the settings of the routers are similar to each other, only the appearance of the interface differs:

  1. In the address bar of your browser, enter the login address, for example, http://192.168.0.50. Usually the address is indicated on the router itself or in the user manual.
  2. We indicate admin as the login and password. Please note: if you changed access when you first set up the router, you will need to enter the data you specified.
  3. Make sure the Internet is connected. Several indicators signal this at once.
  4. Check the connection channel in the advanced Wi-Fi settings. There should be an “Auto” item in the drop-down menu.

Reboot your router and try connecting your smartphone to Wi-Fi again.

How to set up a Wi-Fi hotspot on a laptop

To set up Wi-Fi pairing between a smartphone and a laptop, it is not enough to simply create a connection. It is extremely important to open the access point and device discovery. Very often, an Android smartphone does not see Wi-Fi due to the fact that the user has not fully configured the access point on the laptop.

  • Sign in to the Network and Sharing Center.
  • Select "Change advanced sharing settings."
  • Enable network discovery.
  • Allow file and printer sharing.
  • Disable password protected network access.
  • Save your changes.

How to make a router from a phone?

It often happens that, even with a configured router, it is impossible to connect to the Internet. This usually happens due to problems with the communication line or during technical work carried out by the provider. In this case, you can turn your own phone into a Wi-Fi signal source. You will find step-by-step instructions in our article.
